Giuliana Calomino
Giuliana Calomino was born in Naples, on 5th of December, 1984 . She approaches to the world of journalism very soon and at nineteen years old she began to write for some newspapers of the City. She learns to combine writing and images. After a report made in the far east of Turkey, she definitely falls in love with photography. Once she completes her degree in Literature at University Federico II , she continues her studies specializing herself in Photojournalism at the Accademia delle Belle Arti. She did news reports about the world of "neomelodici" singers, about religious and popular traditions of the South, about everyday life. Later approaches to the language of photography.
"ZERO"
ZERO by Giuliana Calomino. Everything started from a feeling. I felt that the world I knew was changing, it would never be the same. It was a transformation that was happening inside me, first of all, in the way I saw and perceived things. I was building a new world. So I started to take photographs of this planet that could easily be confused with an alien landscape. I operated by distorting reality, creating an extra-terrestrial landscape, far away, almost psychedelic, but close. Being a transposition of the depth of my being, I was not interested in showing a universe outside of my own. I tell about this land, my land, the search for a home. Looking at them more closely, the photographs begin to seem more familiar, that alien world comes closer and becomes an intimate narrative. The borders between the two universes disappear and you no longer know whether you’re looking at a foreign star or within the confines of this world.
